Korea 1 - - Japan 0 VideoPhotos The
Bathroom Break - After a
lot of first half bonding between the local fans and the visiting North Korean
supporters (clad in their Nike caps), the bathroom break halftime show began.
As a wall of sturdy looking plain clothes officers surrounded the bathrooms reserved
for the North Koreans, the Koreans on both sides of the wall exchanged "anyong
haseyo's" and waved vigorously at each other. The
Japanese Cheer Squad - At the Asian Games, Korea has kept up its well intentioned
tradition of providing cheer squads for visiting teams, who may not have many
fans from their home country to cheer for them. This is more difficult in some
cases than others. With the local fans clearly rooting for their Northern cousins,
this was one of those cases. In order to entice people to join the Japan cheering
section, danishes and drinks were offered. They managed to fill the section and
the cheerguy was a nonstop source of loud 'Nippon' chants, but the supporters
were less than enthusiastic. Even the cheerguy confessed that he couldn't bring
himself to say 'Japan Fighting!'. After halftime, many of the supporters 'took
their danish and ran' to a different section. Womens
Football (a non expert opinion) - When it comes to rough play, the women seem
every bit as tough as their male counterparts, especially when it comes to drilling
the ball into an opponent's body. To the ladies' credit, there were noticeably
fewer yellow and red cards and was virtually no whining or flailing on the ground,
pretend or otherwise.
