Mu Sang Sa International Zen Center

Mu Sang Sa is a temple being built by foreign Buddhist monks and nuns in the foothills of beautiful Kye Ryong Mountain. We are conveniently located near the city of Daejeon, yet our location is far enough from the city that we have plenty of fresh air, clean water, and fabulous rustic scenery. Our teacher, Zen Master Seung Sahn, has been teaching in Korea and abroad for more than thirty years, and one of his long time disciples, an American monk named Mu Shim Sunim, is our current abbot and guiding teacher.
Mu Sang Sa features two ninety day retreats a year, one in the summer and one in the winter. Anyone who has had some basic experience in meditation and is able to sit at least a week of retreat is welcome to apply. The schedule is intensive, as we wake every morning at 3:00 a.m. and practice formally more than ten hours a day.
During the spring and fall, we are open for both day visits and even longer stays are possible, with permission from our abbot. Every Sunday we offer a meditation class from 1:00-4:00 p.m. with basic instructions, Zen sitting and a Dharma talk at the end. All are welcome to come and experience Zen meditation at our temple.
