Education Page

Welcome to the Education page of the Pweb!

Over the next few weeks the education pages will be added to this section of the Pweb.  The main focus of the education pages will be on language teaching and learning, specifically English and Korean.  As the creator of these pages is a bit of a novice, he has to ask you to bear with him through the inevitable growing pains.  You may be seeing some broken links and strange happenings until things become smoother.

Thanks for your patience!

Interested in Seriously Learning Korean

Hi Everyone, Does anybody have suggestions for a good Korean program in Pusan? I will be moving to the Seomyeon area in May and want to start language lessons. I see KLIFF advertised here. Has anyone experienced one of their courses or heard any opinions on their courses? Does anyone know of a university that offers intensive programs on par with the programs run by Yonsei in Seoul? I have taken classes before, but they are always simply grammar translation and repeat the sentence after the instructor with little if no explanation as to how the structure can be utilized effectively or manipulated in a practical sense. Thanks for any help you can provide. Best to all, Mayosean

Learning Korean at KLIFF

From my experience at KLIFF, I would say it is more than just a regurgitation of vocabulary and phrases. The students are encouraged to utilize the material that is learned in discussions about their Korean life. Slang and cultural differences also seem to have a reoccurring role in the curriculum. With regards to an intensive program such as Yonsei in Seoul, I can't help you with that. I do know that KLIFF offers an abundance of classes and private lessons that are taken advantage of frequently by foreign business people and university students to create their own 'intensive' course. Those who are learning while teaching/working usually take 2 to 3 classes a week but one could easily do it every day or add a private lesson to the regular schedule to create their own ideal learning situation. I hope this helps, but you can always send an email off to KLIFF via the website to get some more detailed information about what they can do for you once you get to Busan. ~Sim

Any plans after corea? Go to Guatemala and learn Spanish.

You will have a great experience and spend your money slowly. You find out that the Guatemaltecos are unique people. Check this site out if this sounds interesting to you. It's a Spanish school that I highly recommend run by two Guatemalteco single mothers. http://www.spanishschoolelportal.com/

Kaplan/Princeton Review: GMAT workshops?

Kaplan or Princeton Review. Can such be found in Busan? Resources are available at bookstores, but what of formal classes or even study groups?
