"Barranquilla Carnival"

One of the most vivd and colorful folkloric expressions of Colombia, the "Barranquilla Carnival".
 
Declard by UNESCO as a "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity", the Carnival takges place early year in the streets of Barranquilla, on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. It is a spontaneous explosion of music, dance, colorful costumes, masks and merrymaking, where indigenous, African and European cultures happily converge to grand ecalt.

A "Carnival Queen" marks the start of the festivities by royal decree; a parade of folkloric groups travels through the streets, includeing the already famous characters of the Carnival, "Momo, the King", the Children Queens, the "Marimondas" and fantasy costumed groups, all of them dancing to the somtimes frenetic rhythms of "Cumbias", "Congos" and "Garabatos".
