Opening Weeekend in USA. 24.3 Million.

Plot. After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Struggling to keep them together, their sensei, Master Splinter, becomes worried when strange things brewing in New York City. Tech-industrialist tycoon Max Winters revives four ancient stone warriors and enlists the help of the foot clan to help capture ancient monsters.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have returned to the big screen.

For this film there will be 2 types, either you are going to love this film or you will hate this film. For me it was the first. It was nice to see some old friends that I last saw in cheesy movies return for a CGI film.

If you do not know anything about the Turtles, then please check out the Wikipedia link and catch up.

For the turtle fan this will be a nice film to watch here in Korea. Please try and see it in English, I fear a Korean dubbing will really ruin this film.

The story is quite simple, the Turtles have fallen apart and new and more dangerous monsters are loose in New York City. Please be sure to listen for Patrick Stewart’s voice as Winters. If you are a fan of Mako , this was his last role as the voice of Master Splinter.

The film has a medium budget but it look and feels great. Try and see it with your family when it arrives in April 2007.

Grade B

Michelangelo: Did anyone get the license plate of that thing that hit us last night? It looked like your mom, dude!
[laughs]
Donatello: ...Yeah, that would make her your mom too, doofus.
Michelangelo: ...Nuts.

Plot from IMDB: When the motorcyclist Johnny Blaze finds that his father Barton Blaze has a terminal cancer, he accepts a pact with the Mephistopheles, giving his soul for the health of his beloved father. But the devil deceives him, and Barton dies in a motorcycle accident during an exhibition. Johnny leaves the carnival, his town, his friends and his girlfriend Roxanne. Years later Johnny Blaze becomes a famous motorcyclist, who risks his life in his shows, and he meets Roxanne again, now a TV reporter. However, Mephistopheles proposes Johnny to release his contract if he become the "Ghost Rider" and defeat his evil son Blackheart, who wants to possess one thousand evil souls and transform hell on earth.

How I saw it. Cinemark Theater Sherman Texas.

How could something with this much promise be such a bad film? It just failed on me on every level.

I never believed the love story between Johnny and Roxanne. The music in the film was so easy to predict and the special effects reminded me of a very late” z” film on HBO.

The crowd around me loved the film, I just really hated it. It felt very forced upon me and It just left me very flat. Pass at all cost on this one when it arrives in Korea in April 2007.

Plot from IMDB: Alan Johnson (Don Cheadle) gets a surprise when he runs into his old college roommate, Charlie Fineman, (Adam Sandler) on the streets of New York. He is shocked to find out that Charlie doesn't remember him at all. Alan later learns that Charlie is suffering with grief from the loss of his wife and kids to a plane crash in 9/11. He attempts to help Charlie get over his grief by rekindling their friendship while Charlie hangs out with Alan because he doesn't know anything about what his family was like as he refuses to talk about it. As Alan spends a lot of time with Charlie it puts a strain on his relationship with his wife and kids.

What do you do when every day reminds you of what you have lost and you do not know where to go?

You have the main idea of this film and it will not be an easy film to see.

The film deals with an aftermath of the American 9-11 attacks and its loss on this one man Charlie Fineman.

Throughout the film, you see a man who, once had it all, and in a moment of hatred, lost it all. You are watching him try and deal with it by not dealing with it.

I am leaving this review spoiler free because it needs to be seen that way. Please notice how the music is used and how the Mel Brooks film festival is shown.

What I will say is that if Adam Sandler can give performances like this, then his comedy days may soon be at an end. Don Cheadle once again reminds us why he is slowly becoming a great actor before our eyes with his role in this film.

Please listen to Adam’s part when he remembers his family, this becomes the money shot for this film. Please see it when it, hopefully, plays in Korea.

I am hoping that Sandler gets nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for this role.

Grade. A

Charlie Fineman: Can he go out? Is he allowed out? Alan Johnson: Don't do that, dont ask my wife permisson for me to go out. Charlie Fineman: Alright, you're right. Can you go out? Alan Johnson: Alan looks at Janeane, Can I go out?

Movie Review. The Last King Of Scotland

Review:
How I saw it. DVD Screener Opens in Korea. March 8, 2007 Plot: (HUGE SPOILER ALERT) The story revolves around how a young Scottish doctor, Nicholas Garrigan, becomes, by chance, the personal physician to the new Ugandan President Idi Amin. At first Garrigan tries to ignore the crimes Amin is committing across the country, but he is forced to realize their reality when a comment of his leads Amin to kill the health minister. Garrigan also develops an affair with one of Amin's many wives, and impregnates her. She is killed by Amin, causing Garrigan to attempt to poison Amin. Amin discovers this scheme and orders Garrigan killed. Garrigan is saved by a fellow Ugandan doctor, and escapes with a group of hostages released during the Air France hijacking at Entebbe International Airport. END SPOLIER ALERT The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role it was for Forrest Whitaker’s portrayal of Idi Amin. Please see this link to see who Idi Amin Was. Now a little background before I start the review, I knew who Amin was due to my history Degree and my major paper praising the 1976 Raid on Entebbe. When we had to pick a dictator and pretend to be him and describe why they became a dictator, I drew Amin. So my speech research gave me a lot of background of this man. Now the huge problem that I have with this film is the Doctor Nicholas Garrigan. In 1971-79 Uganda he did not exist. He is a fictional character. The film tries to portray him as a hound-dog and then the Jiminy Cricket voice of reason to the insane Amin. I recalled that he did have a Scottish doctor when he was president of Uganda, so I thought at first that this was his story but when I soon realized that this doctor was fiction, the film lost me very fast. Now what I did like about the film was Whitaker’s take on Amin. He had him down pat, from all of the video that I seen of Amin and with the wide eyed speech that he gives about eating chickens instead of his enemies was Amin to the max. Now, for what I really hated about the film. I wish the film would have continued to the actual fall of Amin in 1979 and his exile into Saudi Arabia. Instead the film ends with the raid of Entebbe 48 hours away. It did not show any of the raid, it did not show the inner collapse of Amin after the raid. For these reasons the film fails. I still cannot believe that they put a major person into this film and he never existed. Overall there are better films about Amin than this one to see, if you want to see a good performance then please see it for Forrest Whitaker’s acting role. If you are looking for a good film, then please pass on this one. Grade (C-) Girl on Bus: Do you have monkeys in Scotland? Nicholas Garrigan: No, but if we did we'd probably deep fry them!

Movie Review: The Queen

Review:
Release date in Korea. Feb. 15 2007 How I saw it. DVD Screener Plot. The Queen is an intimate behind the scenes glimpse at the interaction between HM Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Tony Blair during their struggle, following the death of Diana, to reach a compromise between what was a private tragedy for the Royal family and the English People's demand for an overt display of mourning. The Oscar nominations for this film are, "Best Motion Picture of the Year", "Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role" for Helen Mirren’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II. The film also received Oscar nominations for, "Best Achievement in Directing", Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen" and a few others. To be honest, I never was that huge of a fan of the late Princess Diana. So when she died in 1997, the world reaction caught me by surprise. What this film is about is the week after the Princess’ death and to her funeral on the next Saturday and how the Queen and Tony Blair reacted to the public outcry of grief for "The People’s Princess." Now I can see why Mirren has already won a few awards for this role, she has the Queen down pat and when she walk into a scene, I felt wrong when I turned my back toward her. What question this film asks is, "When can a very privately public person morn?" The film gives the real impression that the Queen and the Princess, grew to dislike each other. You also see the Queen being very protective of her 2 grandsons by removing radios, TVs and newspapers so not to upset them. The film does not pull any punches and casts the royals in a not so good light but it does show them trying to understand their country's grief over Diana. What I liked best about the film was The P.M reaction to his staff about the Queens public speech and how he is trying to convince her that England wants to see their Queen morn. When you here why she can not openly morn its the highlight of the movie. Overall, if you get a chance to see this film, then please do. It is worth your time. Grade. A HM Queen Elizabeth II: [the Queen's sister is called back from holiday after Diana's accident] What did she say? Prince Philip: Something about Diana managing to be more annoying dead than alive.
