The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Review:
Well, its the summer of 2008 and this week, we have another sequel. It's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. It is a new Mummy film but instead of Egypt, this one takes place in 1947 China. To be honest I was never a huge fan of the first 2, so when i went to see #3, I had no real expectations. Really, the only reason I went was to see, if the new "Harry Potter" trailer would be attached to the film here in Korea as it was in the USA/Canada. (It was not). After I saw the film, I was quite surprised, I actually liked this film. It is the typical "summer blockbuster" film. If you are looking for an action summer film with, mummies, love, a battle between good and evil, then you will want to see this film. What i really liked about the film, was the usage of Jet LI (Emperor Han) and Michelle Yeoh (Zi Juan). Every time that these 2 actors were on the screen I felt that I was looking and the forces of evil and good trying to destroy each other. When you see these 2 together, it really helps the film. Also I was glad to see Brendan Fraser, return to a role that he was born to play in " Rick O'Connell". It was god to see a popcorn action hero return. To be honest, I did not miss Rachel Weisz in this film at all. I thought that the new actress, Maria Bello did a great job in it and I liked the little tip of the hat they did towards Rachel in the beginning of the film. I highly recommend that you see the film in a digital cinema. It really added a better vibe to the film than when I saw it on film. Over all, the film is worth one summer viewing and after the film is over you might actually be looking towards maybe...Mummy 4. Grade B Opened in South Korea on 30 July 2008 How I saw the film. Primus DLP and CGV Film. Extra scene at the end of the credits. No Opens in USA. 1 August 2008. Alex O'Connell: Good going dad. You've raised another mummy. Movie Review. Sally

Review:
Well it was another week of seeing the so-called, "New Korean Wave Film" Sunny and once again I must ask the question, "Where can this film play, besides Korea?" For those who have not heard of this film, the story goes like this, Old-fashioned Soon-yi marries into a family in the country without love. But when her husband abandons her by enlisting into the Vietnam war, she wants to show that she is capable of loving him. She uses her vocal talent to join a band heading there and sings for the restless soldiers in hopes of meeting her husband while on tour. I had a very bad feeling as I went into the theater and sad to say, the feeling was correct. Every time the US Army is featured in this film, I kept counting all of the errors with the uniforms and just about everything else. It was a total waste of even trying to be correct and to me the film horribly fails on this part. The acting for the US military roles were just as bad and I never believed any of them. I never believed the actress Soo-Ae for a moments as a lady in love with her husband. She came across, to me, as a lady who was horribly mis-cast and each time the screen is on her,she can not deliver. This film ultimately fails because of her. Overall the film is another bad attempt of Korea trying to be a world player in cinema. Please pass on this film at all cost. Grade D- How I saw it. CGV Digital Screen Opened in Korea on July 24th 2008

Movie Review. The Good, The Bad and The Weird.

Review:
Movie Review. The Good, The Bad and The Weird. Well, once again it was time to see the next "big" Korean blockbuster The Good, The Bad and The Weird and once again I went into the movie with no high hopes and I got exactly what I thought I would get. An empty, pretty, popcorn picture. What you have in this film is Woo-sung Jung playing "The Good" a bounty hunter who hates the fact that Japan has taken over Korea. We also have Byung-hun Lee playing "The Bad" a exiled Korean who wants to become a legendary bandit. Lastly, we have Kang-ho Song playing "The Weird" who plays a simple bandit who wants to become rich. The plot of the film is during the Japanese occupation of Manchuria in the 1930s. The Weird steals a map from a Japanese official. The Bad is paid to get the map back. The Good is a bounty hunter who tracks them both down to return the map to the Korean Independence Army. If you suspend reality for awhile, the film will work for you. I kept watching the film and I kept wondering, "What in the heck were they thinking when they were making this film?" The song that kept playing over and over was written in the 1960's not the 30's when this film supposedly takes place. It was this error and a lot of the little historical errors in this flick that made me turn against this film. Now, the film has some very funny shots and it and you will laugh at some of it. Each time that Kang-ho Song humor is on the screen, he dwarfs the other actors and this, in my humble opinion, also hurts the film. I had the chance to see this film at the Yongsan CGV where the film will play for a few weeks with English Subtitles. The subtle humor was lost in the translation and this will also hurt the film when it plays in a very limited release in the US in early 2009. Overall if you want to see a good popcorn film over the weekend this will be worth one viewing. Any more that that will led to a disappointment once again with Korean Films. Grade. C- How I saw it. Yongsan CGV (With English Subtitles) Opened in Korea on 17 July 2008.

Movie Review. Get Smart

Review:
To be honest, I had no real hopes for this film. I was wrong in my judgment, it was actually worse that I thought it was going to be. Welcome to the film Get Smart I used to watch the Tv show and it always made me laugh. While watching this film the only thing I did was shake my head and ask, "Why"? The film is hopelessly mismatched as Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway try and have some on screen chemistry. The mismatch worked on the tv show but fails miserably in the film. It was so bad, I just guess, after 7 minutes in to the movie, that the double-agent will be..... and I was correct. It was a huge set up and a huge failure. The only thing I really liked about the film was the end credit where it said, For Don Adams" then it added and Edward Platt. I thought that it was a nice touch. If you like Steve Carell, then please see this film. If you are a fan of the TV show, then please pass on this turd,at all cost. Grade D- Opened in Korea on 19 June 2008 How I saw it CGV Theater. Extra scene at the end of the movie. No
