Movie Review. The Happening

Review:
I am sure that there was a message to the film, The Happening but after seeing the film, darned if I know what the frak it is. HEAVY SPOILER ALERT REVIEW.......................................................... So the film is telling us that plants will one day see humans as a threat and release chemicals that will make people kill themselves? It will take someone a lot smarter than em to explain this one to me,I just never could grasp that concept. I have no idea what is going wrong with M. Night Shyamalan. Maybe, he peaked too early. But with this being his 3rd disappointment in a row, one could really ask should he ever direct a film and as a movie going audience, should we give him another chance? END SPOILER ALERT.................................................................... After I left the theater, I kept thinking, "I saw a good film in there but what a mess of the editing." I had earlier seen a interview of the director, M. Night Shyamalan, being giddy about this being his first "R" rated film. I wonder what in the heck was the "R" for? Somewhere in this film, their is a good movie. I could not find it. A huge disappointment for all of those involved. What should have been a horror film turns into an evil Al Gore Documentary. Movie Review. The Incredible Hulk

Review:
I have never been that huge of a fan of the "Hulk", so when Ang Lee's Hulk bombed, I was not that surprised. I was hopping that we would never hear from the "Hulk" ever again. That would have been a shame because I like the New Hulk film, The Incredible Hulk. The film opening credits told you that you were going to see something different. I saw references to Tony Stark, SHIELD, Nick Furry and basically a relaunch of the Hulk franchise, while ignoring the 2003 film. If you notice, they showed a clip of Bill Bixby, (as a nice little nod to the man who portrayed Bruce Banner in the 70's TV show). I could not believe that they were tying the Marvel Universe together in the film. I also liked the fact the they used Stan Lee (the creator of the comic book), Lou Ferrigno (The TV Hulk) and Paul Soles (who voiced Banner in the 1966 The Marvel Superheroes cartoon) and a nice little tip towards "Captain America" The film ultimately works as a love story between Banner and Betsy Ross. She loved David Banner and when he became the Hulk. She lost the man that she loved. When he returns, you can see her pain and when he becomes, Hulk, she is the only one who can calm him down. She loves the man and can calm the monster. The film has it usual villains, General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross and Abomination trying to work together to destroy the "Hulk".What I also liked that the film was setting up Samuel Sterns as The Leader to be a future villain. There is definitely an "Oh Frack" moment at the end of this film and it really shows that maybe, Marvel will try and finally get it right. If you liked the first film, then you will not like this one. If the reverse is true, then you will probably like this one. Please see it when you can. Grade A. Betty Ross: [Betty and Bruce need to get across own in New York City] The subway is probably quickest. Bruce Banner: Me in a metal tube with hundreds of people in the most aggressive city in the world? Betty Ross: Right. Let's get a cab. Opened in South Korea on 12 Jun 2008 How I saw it. Movie Review. Kung-Fu Panda

Review:
So can Jack Black do Kung Fu? Based on the movie Kung Fu Panda, the answer is yes. I really had no idea if I was going to like this film. As a young boy, I grew up with Bruce Lee and the The Shaw Brothers. I knew that it was going to play at the IMAX and I knew that I had to see it. THIS WILL BE A SPOILER ALERT REVIEW. IF YOU DO NOT THE FILM SPOILED FOR YOU THEN PLEASE STOP READING THIS REVIEW. I saw a lot of Kung-Fu film growing up in the 70's and 80's. I heard that Dreamworks was working on an animated 3D film about a Kung-Fu Panda. I was thinking that this will either be good or this will be a huge disaster. Well, I did not like the film. I loved it. The film opens up as A Panda (Jack Black) has gone to war to save the innocents and he soon has the "Awesome 5" join him and they are going to fight an epic battle. There is only one problem, Its all a dream. You then see the panda wake up and go to his father (A Crane) and work in his noodle store. I loved the little joke about ownership and the "noodle dream" We are then shown Master Oogway (Randall Duk Kim) have a premonition that the Evil warrior Tai Lung (Ian McShane), the former protege of his own protege, Shifu,(Dustin Hoffman) a muskrat, will escape from prison, and return to destroy their valley. Oogway orders a formal ceremony to fulfill a prophecy of a mighty Dragon Warrior who can defeat him. To everyone, that is obviously one of the Furious Five, a quintet of supremely skilled martial artists trained by Shifu. Should be picked. So when Po the Panda is selected the story begins and I loved it. It reminded me about all of the Kung-Fu films that I have seen in the past and I knew that they were going to give it a little twist. It was usually the one who you never expected to be the hero to save the day. What I loved what how Master Oogway said good-bye and gave his little advice to Shifu. You can see Shifu has a task but how do you train a panda? What was funny was when he realized the it was food that could make the Panda become the warrior and it sure sounded stupid, but it works and it was great. Then near the end of the film, you see the final battle between good and evil. It took a lot from the Shaw past films. It was a great action scene and it well worth seeing a few times, to see if you really saw all that this part has to offer. END SPOILER ALERT............................................................................................................... The film works and was a nice tribute to the past Kung-Fu films. The only complaint I have about the film was that Korean Singer "Rain" sang Kung-Fu Fighting during the end credits. His version was horrible and never needs to be heard, ever again. Please see the film on the IMAX Screen and it will be worth it. Grade A How I saw it. Yongsan IMAX Opens In Korea. June 5, 2008 Extra scene at the end. Yes Tai Lung: What are you going to do, sit on me? Po: Don't tempt me.

Movie Review: Sex and the City

Review:
Have you ever gone into a movie thinking that you were going to hate it? Then, it is you in the movie theater alone, realizing that you really thought that they did a good job with the film. This happened to me at "Sex in the City" NOW, THIS WILL BE A VERY SPOILER ALERT REVIEW! SO IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, THEN PLEASE STOP NOW. Well the film starts out 4 years after the TV show has ended. Carrie is still with "Big". Samantha is now in California, managing Smith's career. Charlotte is still married to Harry and their 3 year old adoptive daughter and Miranda is Still married to Steve and loves her son. I never was that huge of a fan of the TV show but I know who the cast is and the stories. Recently, in movie reviews, I have asked the writers to tell me a good story and to actually have a good script that works and just make the film somewhat believable. You can imagine my surprise what the film actually delivered all of that. The film is about 2.5 hours long, but it does not feel like that. The films main issues are Carrie and "Big's" huge wedding and how all of her friends will be there, Samantha's' missing of New York and her slow hatred of California. We see that Charlotte becomes pregnant and has another little girl and Miranda's lost of love and he path back to it. What I liked was all 4 of the ladies stories were well told well paced that you could actually believe that this could happen. What I liked was when "Big" called off the wedding at the Library, You saw her friends just take over and really show their anger. Watch Charlotte's role in this part. I Thought that Kristen Davis pulled it off very well. With Carrie we see her do a total collapse and when she finds out why "Big" has second thought and who was to blame for it, it turned the film and it made it better. I also liked Samantha's story about California. You see that she has a high power job managing "Smith's" career, she loves him but not in love with California and when she realizes what is wrong, she makes the right call in going back to NYC. We see Charlotte loving her role as a mother and also as Carries' protector. I thought that they really developed her role quite well here. What I loved was when she finally started to tell "Mr. Big" off, her water broke and it was just so believable, it worked. My favorite story was Amanda's. You can see that she has it all but she has taken it for granite. When she realizes that Steve cheated on her and what she told "Big" before the wedding, you see these 2 slowly destroying her. Take a good look at the fashion show scene, I thought that this is where Amanda's character started to evolve. The New Years scene and the Valentine's Day story is where the film shows what lies can do to people. The addition of Jennifer Hudson as Carries' Assistant, Louise, roves to be a stroke of brilliance. You can see what time that she has in the film, that an actress is developing and we get to see it. Watch for the "rented bags" scene to show how truly fashion label people can be. It was crazy but it worked. The end of the film was simple but it worked. It was at a small wedding reception at a local dinner for Carrie and "Big" with her friends and their families. It was just so simple but it seemed so real. No fancy fashion labels or gaudy clothes, just love. Love was lost, love was destroyed but in the end love saved. END SPOILER ALERTS............................................................. If you want a good film to see, then please see Sex and the City Grade B+ How I saw it. Yongsan CGV Opened in Korea. 5 June 2008 Opening Weekend in USA. $56,848,056 (USA) (1 June 2008) (3,285 Screens) No Extra scene at the end of the credits Anthony Marentino: The invitations are fancier than the dress. Failure of the film, "Grindhouse."

Review:
In this review, we will look at the failure of the film, "Grindhouse." On July 3, 2008, "Planet Terror" will finally get its long-delayed release in to Korean Cinemas. The film is the 2nd part of the US release of April 2007's "Grindhouse". The first part "Death Proof" was released here in Korea in September 2007. In the USA both of these films were release together as a double feature that lasted about 3+ hours. The film was supposed to be the shinning light of The Weinstein Company independence from Disney, after the end of the Weinstein's brothers withdraw from Miramax studios. It had both of the brothers golden boys (Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez) The film had the key word, "Buzz". The film was going to open as the counter programing for Easter 2007. The weekend totals came in and "Grindhouse" finished in 4th place with $11.6 million. So what went wrong? The biggest factor cited by Harvey Weinstein himself is the three-hour plus running time of the double feature. According to his research, American movie goers shied away from the prospect of paying attention to anything that runs longer than 90 minutes. (When I saw him actually say that, I kept thinking "Titanic" "Harry Potter" and Pirates of the Caribbean" Sure were longer that 90 minutes and they all seemed to have made a huge profit.) In my opinion it was a combination of a few things that killed this film and here are my reasons for it. 1. Released on Easter Weekend. You take your mother and family out to see a movie together. Imagine taking you mother to see a film with nude ladies, cussing and bombs on a religious holiday. It was released on the wrong day and it never recovered from it. Also, April is notorious for bad films being dumped, that are not quite good enough for a Summer release. To me this was another huge mistake that the film never could overcome. 2. What exactly was the film? I grew up seeing a lot of the late night films that they were trying to pay their respects to and that was nice. Most of their fans, below a certain age, have never been entrained with these types of movies and did not understand the concept. The younger film audience passed on this film. The film previews explained that it was 2 movies but the audience believed that it was one and it was shown with scratches and missing reals and the joke was lost to them. 3. The cost of this film. The original Grindhouse films were low cost. This film cost 55 million to make and it does not look like that. The last failure of this film was the making 2 films with this instead of the huge one film. When I heard that they were going to break down this film, I could not believe it. Have they actually heard of You Tube and seen what the reaction could be? When I saw the first film in Korea, I was so happy that I was not the only one who was disappointed with the 2nd film and the fake trailers that were missing. We wanted to see the 3 hour 15 minute movie not the "Readers Digest" abridged version. After the box office failure, the mistakes have continued with this film in its DVD release. For the majority of the world , the film was released as a split set with each film receiving a 2 DVD set release. In Japan the film has been given a 6 DVD set release with 1 of the discs being the entire 195 minute original film. This is what should have been released and the US film fan is still waiting for that release. The only reason I was able to obtain the DVD set was a huge Bit Torrent file. That is a shame for a fan who wanted to purchase the 6 DVD set. To me it was the final insult that the the Weinstein brothers just never quite understood what to do with this film. Please see the film, "Planet Terror" when it arrives in Korea and try and download the film as it was originally intended. You might be surprised that you actually like it.
